Building Things: My Little Wooden Bars
& other projects...

Context,

You'll see the branding for 'Little Wooden Bar Co' pop up during this post. Before 2020, with all it's ups and downs, I ran The Little Wooden Bar Company. This was my first proper business and I had a lot of fun with it.

After taking a break during that one time events weren't permitted, I needed rethink my approach and evolve into Hyperlight Spirit.

However, I still love my little wooden bars and they're a core part of my business. So here's some photos from the building process.

Panels,

These bars follow a simple pop-up design that I had seen once or twice at markets before. Though I have yet to ever see this design ever again.

I paid to have the panels CNC'd to the correct spec. At the time this was really affordable as hobbyists and small businesses were beginning to expand and offer cutting services for anything you could dream up.

I really just needed to treat the panels with a little tlc.

Cladding,

The cladding was the fun part for me. Using some pine tongue and groove, I cut strips down to size with a jigsaw.

Varnish,

After a few coats of satin pine furniture varnish they were ready to be glued into place.

finishing touches,

I followed up with some evenly spaced, gold, countersunk screws and voila, main bar complete.

Rear bar display,

I needed a rear bar display so I ordered a standard welded frame, for market vendors. I opted to sand down and re-varnish the stock shelves that came with the frame. They arrived in poor condition but cleaned up nicely with a some work.

All done,

This is me with my first bar finished. I'd go on to make a second, so that they can be pushed together. I'd later make a centre panel and joining piece, as this let me link the two bars together with a central extension.

Little Wooden Bar

Here's a great shot of my little wooden bar in use. This is for a birthday party and I made some cocktails and served cold beers from a cool box hidden under the bar.

Lending to friends

The front sign is removable. Simply held on with some picture brackets. Here's my friend Vicki using the bar to showcase some wonderful wines from her curated wine shop, Carafe.

and other things,

I enjoy carpentry and have built a few other bars and pieces of furniture along the way.
I'll dig up some old projects below:
